Pre-to-Post Pregnancy PREP

Why prepare for pregnancy?

Most women know they need to see a doctor and make lifestyle changes while pregnant. But, it is just as important to start making changes before you get pregnant.

Pre-Pregnancy PREP will help you prepare your body for pregnancy, support your pregnancy better and avoid the common conditions that occur after giving birth.

These include:

  • Getting to a healthy weight before you get pregnant.
  • Eating healthy food and doing something active every day.
  • Reduce or eliminate smoking and alcohol.

Pre-to-Post Pregnancy PREP

Before trying for a baby, it is important to start getting your body ready for pregnancy. Whether it is the first or a subsequent pregnancy, ensuring your body is strong and healthy will support a stronger pregnancy and prevent common postpartum conditions.

Our Pre-Pregnancy PREP Programme helps you prepare for pre & post pregnancy. This includes body strengthening utilising medical-grade machines before pregnancy, and postpartum recovery sessions.

Abdominal Muscle Strengthening

Developing and maintaining strong core muscles will keep you more comfortable during your pregnancy by allowing you to carry your baby with greater ease.

Going into pregnancy with strong abdominal muscles will help with prevention of back problems, promote an easier time pushing during labour and a better postpartum recovery.

Pelvic Floor Strengthening

Strengthening the pelvic floor muscles before and during pregnancy can decrease the damage done to the muscles by the strain of carrying a growing baby, decrease the risk of injury during a vaginal birth and speed up postpartum recovery.

Pelvic floor muscle training will help to reduce or avoid stress incontinence after pregnancy. A strong pelvic floor can also make sex more enjoyable.

Floorwork

During pregnancy, a floorwork programme consisting of 1:1 individual sessions or Orchard Clinic Community events will help to improve posture, decrease common body pains and discomfort such as back pain and fatigue.

Keeping active during pregnancy is also crucial towards a healthy, happier process.

Postpartum Assessment & Recovery

A postpartum body assessment will be done 2-3 months after delivery to check for common issues such as diastasis recti, incontinence and vaginal laxity.

Strengthening sessions will be done according to the individual needs.

Pelvic Floor & Abdominal Muscles

These muscles are important for everyone, but are especially important before and after pregnancy. During pregnancy, the growing weight of the baby and hormonal changes causes the muscles, ligaments and joints to weaken and loosen.

The Core Muscles consist of the abdominal muscles, pelvic floor and lower back extensors, supporting the entire body like the structural beam of a building.
