Our Method for Diastasis Recti

Orchard Clinic is the leading Diastasis Recti treatment centre in Singapore, focusing on long-lasting results by addressing the root cause – strengthening and stabilising the deep muscles using the latest FDA approved technology.

For a complete treatment of Diastasis Recti, the following must be addressed:

  • Muscle: Strengthening of the deep core muscles
  • Tissue: Regeneration of the connective tissue to close up the gap
  • Skin: Remodelling of the collagen network to strengthen the skin layer

In many cases, DRA can naturally go away on its own approximately 8 weeks following childbirth. However, if symptoms continue to persist, they are unlikely to go away on their own, and will require intervention.

Highest intensity of conservative care for Diastasis Recti

Depending on the individual condition, the initial recovery period could range between a month to 3-6 months. We track every client’s progress every 4 sessions and generally, everyone sees improvement by the first assessment.

We recommend a physical assessment to determine if treatment is required and suitable for you. A treatment plan, if required, will be discussed with you at your first visit.

Individual results vary according to factors such as severity, age, how long the condition has been left untreated, multiple pregnancies, heavier babies, etc.

Early intervention is always better towards treatment success. In general clients report:

  • Reduced separation of the abdominal muscles
  • Improved core strength & posture
  • Lesser lower back pain
  • Reduced waist circumference
  • Visibly more toned and sculpted

Diastasis Recti Treatment in Singapore

To treat DRA, the core team of muscles must be retrained to their optimal lines of performance through HIFEM technology and various exercises, allowing the body to regain its healthy coordination. To prevent DRA, recti muscles must be stabilised and strengthened early through customised strengthening exercises early in pregnancy, avoiding further debilitation and development of DRA.

The Core team

The transverse abdominal muscle (TVA) is the deepest abdominal layer and can be imagined as the body’s internal corset. A strong TVA pulls the rectus abdominis together and is critical to DRA recovery. Until their stretched soft tissues heal, working the other three muscles should be secondary to the TVA. As such, avoid straining these abdominal muscles as it will continue to pull the muscles apart at the center.

These include actions such as:

  • Heavy lifting
  • Constipation
  • Oblique and straight crunches
  • Sit ups
  • Leg lowering exercises
  • Plank-type position
