Did you know that 1 in 3 women experience some form of pelvic organ prolapse, especially after giving birth?

This is also common with ageing and menopause. Seeking treatment early is recommended to avoid further worsening of the condition.

Find out more in this video.

Pelvic Organ Prolapse (POP) happens when the muscles and ligaments in the pelvic floor are impaired causing the pelvic organs such as the bladder, bowel or uterus to sag or bulge out into the vagina or rectal opening.

Signs of POP can include:

  • A feeling of heaviness in the vagina or rectum
  • A bulge in the vagina that you can see or feel
  • Discomfort during sexual intercourse
  • Groin or lower back pain
  • Difficulty peeing or passing stool
  • Incontinence

What causes pelvic organ prolapse?

Pelvic organ prolapse is caused by weak pelvic floor muscles that are unable to support the bladder, uterus or rectum. This often leads to urinary incontinence, lower back pain, pelvic pain and a feeling of heaviness or like something is dropping from the vagina or rectum.

Risk Factors & Complications

Factors that increase the risk of developing pelvic organ prolapse include:

  • Pregnancy or childbirth
  • Repetitive heavy lifting
  • Constipation
  • Chronic cough
  • Obesity
  • Genetic factors

Strengthening the pelvic floor muscles will help to prevent and treat mild pelvic organ prolapse. Pelvic organ prolapse may not be preventable. However, to help decrease your risk:

  • Maintain a healthy weight
  • Practice pelvic floor exercises
  • Eat more fiber, which can prevent constipation, which is also a cause of pelvic floor weakness

Seeking early treatment for pelvic organ prolapse is recommended to avoid further worsening of the conditions and surgery. In mild cases of pelvic organ prolapse, strengthening the pelvic floor will effectively thicken and lift the muscles for better support of the internal organs.

At Orchard Clinic, a combination of machine treatments and floorwork exercises is a proven and effective treatment for pelvic organ prolapse.

Pelvic Floor Strengthening

Strengthening and lifting of the pelvic floor will help to prevent and treat pelvic organ prolapse. This can be done without surgery or medication through HIFEM Technology with the BTL Emsella. Activating thousands of supramaximal muscle contractions, this FDA approved treatment rapidly strengthens the pelvic floor in a manner that is not physically possible.

Common treatment benefits include:

  • Stronger pelvic floor muscles
  • Improved incontinence and bladder control
  • Better intimate satisfaction
  • Lesser lower back pain and pelvic pain

Common treatment benefits include:

  • Tightening of the vaginal opening, vaginal canal and perineum
  • Decrease in stress incontinence and strengthening of the vaginal muscles
  • Improved intimate satisfaction
